+ Photos: Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi

Located in the heart of the Old Quarter of Hanoi, Hoan Kiem District, Hoan Kiem Lake is usually considered the pearl of Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam.
According to scientists, Hoan Kiem Lake is the legacy of the Red River stream after it changed the direction. A long time ago, Hoan Kiem Lake was also called the Blue Water Lake because the water always keeps the blue color. During the 15th century, the name Blue Water was changed to Hoan Kiem. Hoan Kiem (meaning: Returning the Sword) is the name that goes with the legend of the Emperor Le Thai To returning the sword to the Golden Turtle.
